Hanukkah and what is the significance of it

Question:How do Jews celebrate Hanukkah and what is the significance of it?
Basically, what i wanna know is what takes place before and on Hanukkah. Do you Jews sing any songs on Hanukkah and are there any special dishes made? I don't really know much about Hannukah so any input (especially from Jews) would be great!
Update : great input so far.. Thks for your help! Trying to understand more about other religions and their festivals too!
Anyways, just out of curiousity, when is Hanukkah (or Chanuka as most of you spell it) this year? Is it over already?

Answer:Why is Hanukkah spelled so many different ways?
That is because Hanukkah is a Hebrew word, and the Hebrew alphabet is very different from the English alphabet.
So when writers translate this word in to English, they use different methods.
Some other ways of spelling Hanukkah are: Chanukkah, Hanukkah, Chanukah, Hanukkah, Channukah, Chanuka. But most use Hanukkah.
One set of grandparents have a granddaughter whose name is Hannah! They started calling it "Hannah-kah!"
